Sankaku-Samgaghyong
Alder wood, hand-plane finished40cm H

Designed & made with Morgun Oh
This stool is a design inspired by the engineering structure of a triangular truss, combined with joinery developed from experience in traditional Japanese woodworking.
Based on Morgun’s engineering background and Emi’s experience in traditional Japanese joinery, this joinery system was designed with careful consideration of load distribution and structural stability. The joinery inside the base beam controls the angle at which the legs splay outward, while the joinery at the seat firmly secures the legs in place.
The load from the seating surface is concentrated at the apex of an equilateral triangle and then redistributed through the base beam. Samgaghyong / Sankaku (the Korean and Japanese words for triangle were found to sound simlar) is a bold, new stool that utilises a unique equilateral-triangle joinery structure rarely used in this way in furniture.
